Plastic Man On The Horizon

This could be the Wachowski Brothers" next project after "The Matrix Revolutions." If this gets the green light we may expect a release of 2005 or 2006?! No cards have been put down on the table, however it looks like the Wachowski Brothers" script reads like a PG-13 movie. Warner Brothers and Amblin Entertainment remain involved in the project, it could also spread over to DreamWorks Pictures.

The cast has yet to be placed down, however many on various forums vote for Jim Carrey or Bruce Campbell. I vote Bruce to portray the quirky hero role of "Eel O"Brien," although from what I remember of the cartoons Jim could probably pull the voice off.

Jack Cole created the character "Plastic Man" and it was originally published by Quality Comics from August 1941 to 1956. Two years later Jack Cole committed suicide and then DC picked up the character. However they did not first publish "Plastic Man" until 1966. Grant Morrison started to include the character in the "Justice League of America." Then he had his own comedy adventure show, which aired from 1979 - 1981.

Originally a criminal, Daniel "Eel" O"Brien had just got out of prison for an act of environmental terrorism. He hooks up with his ex-girlfriend, Susan, whom he happens to know is now working for a company  notorious for the threat it poses to the environment, in the form specifically, of Susan"s work of "polymerizing" living creatures (most recently a mouse). What Eel doesn"t know is that the polymerization is being attempted so that the company"s nefarious owner, Icarus Argon, who wants to use the process to return his body to its former healthy status.

Eel gets caught in the labs and is used as a human guinea pig, miraculously transforming him into Plastic Man. Capable of bending, oozing, moulding and stretching he can disguise himself as any object. Hiding out at Susan"s while he learns how to control his powers, Plastic Man soon discovers that the same process that transformed him might now lead to an ecological disaster on a massive scale... and only he can stop it.

It is likely alterations to the script will take place before filming, possibly the change from Eel being a thief who falls into a vat of acid. He also used to have a side kick whom of which eventually lost potential...Woozy Winks may not appear in this future production.

If the movie does get taken up, filming could start late 2004. Please visit sites for more information about the character (Toonopedia.com) , script (SciFiScripts.com) and possible spoilers from IGN FilmForce.
