Dark Horizons reports that John Travolta and Queen Latifah have joined the cast of movie remake "Hairspray".

Travolta plays downtrodden housewife Edna Turnblad, Latifah is civil rights activist and dance show host Motormouth Maybelle.

The role of Tracy Turnblad, originally played by Ricki Lake in John Waters´ original film has still not been cast as of yet.

The film is set for a Summer 2007 release.

Anyone who has seen the original movie will know that it is not exactly one of the most conventional musicals of all time, so this could still be interesting, even if it is a remake.
