The leading role in the political thriller "Hot Stuff" could go to Tim Robbins! Phillip Noyce´s new film is based on a true story, although Robbins will play a fictional role as a policeman serving in the brutal apartheid era in South Africa.
The drama, about an ordinary man forced to resort to terror, is set to begin filming in August on location in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Mozambique, Swaziland and in the industrial zone and coal fields around Secunda, where the actual story took place.
The story moves into present day South Africa and also stars Derek Luke (Antwone Fisher) as Patrick Chamusso, the real life saboteur sentenced to 24 years imprisonment for his daring solo attacks against the apartheid regime. Bonnie Mbuli (Drum) features as Luke´s wife.
The screenplay is by Shawn Slovo, the daughter of murdered anti-apartheid activist Ruth First and leading African National Congress figure Joe Slovo. Focus Features will release the film in North America and Universal will distribute internationally.
The Hollywood Reporter hosts further information on the feature. To comment on the project, please visit our forum.
