Film fans and so-called experts alike will often tell you that the funniest movie of all time was 1980's "Airplane." This slapstick spoof had more memorable moments and lines than any movie in recent history. Some film fans can recite them. Lines such as "What's the vector Victor," "...and don't call me Shirley" and "Chump no want no help, chump no get that help" are classics. "Airplane's" 1982 sequel "Airplane 2" was also a funny movie. The star of the "Airplane" films was a handsome young man from Maryland named Robert Hays. he played the role of former pilot turned hero "Ted Striker."

Perhaps he was typecast as a comic actor or perhaps he just stepped on the wrong toes, whatever the case may be...Hays didn't get many big roles after the "Airplane" films. It seems almost like a wasted talent. Hays has been seen occasionally on American TV. His film roles have largely been with b-list films that some would be embarrased to have on their resume. They include 1984's "Scandalous" with Ron Travis and 1983's "Utilities." You have probably never even heard of those films. That's because they weren't anything to write home about.

The last time Hays was seen in a movie was 2008's parody flick "Superhero Movie" with the late Leslie Nielsen. This one didn't make its budget back. This did not help Hays' career. He hasn't landed a role since.

Hays is now 64 years old. It is likely that he won't see a surge in his career. However, his fans still love his performance in "Airplane." If you haven't seen it, check it out. It is a true must-see for any film fan.
